Developed by MapMyFitness, Inc., Map My Walk app is a free app that uses your iPhone’s GPS to track your fitness activity.
It is compatible with iPhones, iPads, or iPods Touch using iOS 8 or later.
Here’s what makes it the walk tracking app of choice for over 30 million users worldwide:
Map My Walk, the Walking Tracker You Did Not Know You Needed
The MapMyWalk app will record every little detail about your workout and walking patterns. Duration, distance, route, speed, pace, terrain elevation, and burned calories are just some highlights of what Map My Walk is able to memorize.
The app has a user-friendly and modern design, a must in today’s app market.
Map My Walk Features
Although it occupies about 160 MB, the app is surprisingly swift and feature-packed. It’s a great tool for those who want to track their fitness progress, together with its “siblings”: Map My Fitness, Map My Hike, Map My Ride, and Map My Run. However, it will prove itself useful to those who are not fitness enthusiasts, too. Here are its most noteworthy functions:
This feature covers the basic aspects you would expect from a walk tracking app, but does it very well. In fact, it is said that MapMyWalk is one of the most precise tracking apps. We’re not sure it is able to rise up to the level of its paid competitors, but do acknowledge that it’s one of the most precise free tracking apps we have encountered so far.
We’re going to start with what is, in our opinion, the most useful feature of this app: The ability to access all your in-app data and more via the MapMyWalk website. All your history will be stored on the website, where you will also be able to better observe your progress and goals.
This walk tracking app will record your walking activity 24/7 and display it on your mobile device and on the app’s website. It doesn’t end here, though: Your activity will be displayed both on a map and on a graph. This will make it easier for you to observe patterns in your walking habits and your evolution over time.
This app will enable you to share your activity details with friends and family members. From your favorite routes to your overall progress, all can be instantly shared via Facebook, Twitter, or e-mail. In addition, you can challenge yourself and your friends via the mobile and web app. You also have the option of joining groups and communities that will help you to further improve your physique.
Why We Like It
The ability to connect multiple devices is the feature we highly appreciate about the Map My Walk app thanks to the convenience it offers. Hence, you will not need to take your iPhone every time you go for a walk. You will be able to enjoy the app’s features even when comfortably walking around town with just your keys and iPod Touch.
Another nice touch when first installing this app is the ability to import data from or connect the app with other activity tracking gadgets. This includes Jawbone, Withings, Garmin, Fitbit, or Misfit. In addition, it comes in a variety of languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and simplified Chinese.
We already mentioned the challenges that are available via this app and website, but we really feel we need to explore this a bit further. This fun feature allows users to challenge their friends to different competitions, or to challenge themselves. This might not seem much but has proven very effective in motivating users to reach milestones and improve their fitness stats.
But what we liked most about this app was their walks suggestions. This can prove itself useful for those who got bored with their daily walking paths but don’t know where else to start, or for those who travel to new cities and want to explore them on foot.
As mentioned before, the app is free. However, users are able to upgrade to MVP to benefit from an ad-free experience to its users, plus a bunch of extra features like heart rate analysis, personalized training plans, personal audio coach, or live activity tracking. The MVP premium membership also offers users access to exclusive offers from Map My Walk and its partners. The MVP upgrade costs $5.99 per month or $29.99 per year and automatically renews itself if not told otherwise.
