What You Should Know About the New iOS Update – iOS 8.1.1

Apple rolled out a new iPhone iOS update, the iOS 8 1.1, which delivers bug fixes and performance improvements as well as an increase in terms of your device’s stability. The new iOS update release date was on the 17th of November.

A lot has been going on with Apple’s software since September, when the iOS 8.0 was released on the market. Even though the iOS new update did not draw as much attention as the iOS 7 did last year, the update still comes with some important features like improved notifications, changes to both iMessage and the Camera app, Apple Pay and a brand new keyboard.

Moreover, the iOS 8 version of the operating system has brought a lot of problems among iPhone and iPad users. Several updates where released since September, from iOS 8.0.1 to the latest one, iOS 8.1.1. Each update was meant to fix some of the issues but it seems that on one side, some bugs were fixed while on the other, something else was set to go wrong with the device. However, this new Apple iOS update tries to set things straight for the majority of Apple devices and even though it comes as a small update, as most users can relate, even small changes can have a huge hit on the overall performance of the device.

The new iOS update is compatible with all iPhones from iPhone 4s to iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and the company announced that both iPhone 4s and ipad mini 2 are expected to have a real improvement in terms of performance with iOS 8.1.1.

As expected, the device that seems to be working best on the new update is the iPhone 6. Most of the bugs have been fixed and the new update does not seem to affect the speed or performance quality of the device.

However, in the past week, many people have still complained about the update and its problems. Some of these issues include gesture problems, problems with email, home button issues, lag in Notification Center and many more. Another major issue regarding the update is the fact that it drains battery a lot faster.

Although it is always advisable to update to the latest version of your software, no matter what device you use, security wise, if you are not fond of the new iOS 8.1.1, you can always go back to iOS 8.1. This situation is more complicated for users that still use iOS 7 because for them it is going to be impossible to go back to their previous version.

The newer the version of your device, the better it will work with these updates. Issues and bugs are more likely to appear when it comes to older versions of Apple products. A notable difference between the two updates is experienced by the iPhone 5 users, as the decrease in terms of the device’s speed is very noticeable.

You can install the new update either via Over-The Air (OTA) or iTunes.

How to update your phone?

If you choose to update through OTA, you need to launch the Settings app and go to General-> Software Update. From there, your device will start searching for an updated software version, download it and start a step-by-step installation guide.  Be sure to be connected to a wireless network when you download your software, to avoid extra charges on your phone bill.

If you do choose to get the new iOS update and still experience problems with it, iOS 8.1.2 is not going to be available. Although Apple has released iOS 8.2 in its beta program, the company still has to attach a release date.
